Experience

(Personal note from Mark Mahar)

Just a quick ”hello” to share with you how 20 years has transpired since I first started swinging a hammer:

I owned my first business before graduating high school (New England Home Doctor), performing carpentry and general maintenance for multiple homes in Onset, MA (mostly residential vacation homes).  After working my way through college, I accepted the position of “Operations Manager” with a local home improvement company (7 years there, until it eventually grew to become a regional general contractor and employing 25 or more full-time carpenters…and I moved on to pursue other ambitions).

At 36,  my resume now includes Chief Estimator,  Analyst and/or Project & Operations Manager for countless clients and projects (the sum of which easily exceeds over $100Million in residential & commercial construction).  More locally I have acted as Designer, Carpenter & General Contractor for many smaller projects.

  • Licensed Construction Supervisor (MA; CS#67025)
  • Licensed Home Improvement Contractor (MA; HIC#166482)
  • College Degree – Architectural Technology (Architectural Designer)
  • Vocational Certification – House & Mill Carpentry (Journeyman Carpenter)

My business and management talents (ambitions too) extend beyond construction.  After working and/or studying in the fields of insurance,  marketing, education, aviation, technology, entertainment, charity, art & innovation, and various other professional capacities, I am privileged to put my diverse skills to use (alongside some extremely talented people) as the President of Mahar Enterprises, Inc. (holding company and consulting entity, providing leadership and intellectual property expertise to start-ups, entrepreneurs and inventors).

Some people know me as the “web personality” of Dartmouth Building Supply.  Some people know me as the guy making sawdust in their family room.  Some enjoy my company in formal attire and others watch me get filthy.  Maybe you’ve seen me on stage with my band…or noticed me in the Newport Creamery Commercials?  Maybe you don’t have a clue who I am and I should have just told you “Hi, I’m a carpenter”.  Well…hi…I’m a carpenter.

I don’t run from the diverse, creative and challenging history of roles that I am often trusted to deliver through (I’ve come through it with an outstanding track record – no shame in that).  I’m only human and I may only be able to accomplish one “thing” at a time, but I’ll continue to be stringing as many of those “things” together as I can in my life.   Maybe your next project is one of them?

I’m not telling you all this to brag – I’m simply sharing a piece of my “career story” because my resume has been known to confuse people (and that doesn’t help either one of us).  I don’t know you…but I do know that most of our lives (yours and mine) are spent “working”.  I’m truly blessed that I can say I love what I do for a living and I look forward to working with you…but, bottom line:

Experience matters (in this day and age more than ever).  My experience is worth “explaining”.

From small repairs to large new construction projects, you’ll be in good hands the whole way through any process I’m involved in…that’s just the way I operate.  No frills – good business, good service, and keeping commitments for clients who trust me with a budget.

Thanks for visiting,
Mark
