Design
Congratulations on the decision to design something that is uniquely “yours”.
Designing a living space is a luxury. You’re doing it to provide enhancements to your lifestyle (more space, a cleaner environment, separation of noisy areas, etc.). It doesn’t matter if you are buying a home and fixing it up or finally adapting that home you’ve had for years (or maybe you’re fortunate enough to be designing a brand new home) – the Designer you hire should be focusing their energy on meeting expectations of your lifestyle and budget.
The first mistake most Designers make is to design a space which costs more than the owner can afford (we see it all the time – in fact, we’re often hired by other designers and consultants after they make this mistake – we are hired to redesign projects back down to the client’s budget). The reality of American Consumerism is that we all want more than we can afford (I know I do – that doesn’t mean I try to have everything I want and you shouldn’t either). The important thing to realize during the design phase of your project is that we’re irrational consumers and it is your job to remain as practical as possible (we all have it in our power to be practical). The trick is labeling all the things that are most important to achieve (and doing it within your budget).
If your chosen Designer abandons these simple concepts, guess who pays the price when construction costs come due? – that’s right: You
The right Designer is critical to achieving your goals for a great and affordable living space.
We are experts…and we are patient. We don’t make budgetary design mistakes. Our experience comes from having built and remodeled numerous homes (“hands on” field experience). Out team knows the impact that your choices will have on the budget. We’re uniquely equipped to design your dreams without designing over your budget.
Don’t let a Designer make the mistake of designing a home as a resume showpiece. You have to live in this house (the Designer doesn’t). You have to pay the mortgage and be reminded of the debt you accepted by investing in your ideal environment (the Designer doesn’t). You have to try and recoup your investment at the time of resale/retirement (the Designer doesn’t).
Sometimes landscaping or architectural gables and exterior features aren’t always the best use of your budget. We specialize in “Couch Appeal” (not curb appeal). We create spaces that impress you and your guests (not the neighbors).
Choose a Designer wisely and you’ll achieve exactly what you hope for – a beautiful, affordable and wisely design space that compliments your lifestyle (perfectly).
